Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session. For work on particular issues, including recovering from injuries or surgery, choose Orthopedic Massage; for deep pressure overall choose Deep Tissue or Ashiatsu Massage; for deep pressure and stretching choose Thai Massage.
Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function. I recommend Ashiatsu or Thai Yoga/Ashi Thai for Sports Massage.
Orthopedic massage is a style of massage therapy focused on treating painful conditions that affect the soft tissues of the body. Because orthopedic massage is designed to treat medical conditions, it requires extensive training. It involves releasing tense muscles, helping to stretch and lengthen tight muscles and tendons, and decompress rigid joints. My goal is to restore full health to the soft tissues of your body, both treating your specific conditions as well as improving your overall well-being.
The root word "Ashi" means foot and "Atsu" means pressure - "foot pressure." Many cultures utilize barefoot bodywork. I am trained in one-footed Ashiatsu Massage. This barefoot massage technique uses deep compression effleurage strokes that glide over the body. Bars are used on the ceiling for balance. Centrifugal and centripetal forces are incorporated with push/pull, and pumping effleurage movements, which can relieve symptoms of chronic soft tissue damage. If you love deep firm pressure, you'll love this modality. Check out a video.
Thai massage is more energizing and rigorous than most other forms of massage therapy. It's also called Thai Yoga massage, because I use my hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like postures and stretches. Ashi-Thai is Thai Yoga massage that has been modified to use Ashiatsu barefoot massage techniques & bars on the ceiling for the therapist's balance, support & leverage. Flowing and rhythmic, it passively stretches & lengthens muscles, and fascia release. No oil or lotion is applied, so you wear comfortable cloths during the session.
Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Therapeutic Massage - Lomi Lomi is the Hawaiian word for "massage" and is part of a larger native Hawaiian tradition of healing and natural body care. Lomi Lomi focuses on relaxing your body through gentle or deep touch that is more rhythmical and flowing, rocking, forearm, and vibration, and, if you wish, gentle stretching and deeper tissue. Many of my deep tissue clients prefer Lomi Lomi, since it can affect the deep tissue without the pain. Only the finest coconut oil is used. Check out a video. I drape more modestly than the video with sarongs. I also work slower than the video shows so I affect the deeper tissue.
Pregnancy Massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically for a pregnant person. Pregnancy is a time when the body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Various techniques are used to help release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation.
